Rattle & Hum

Last night I saw a documentary about U2 called Rattle & Hum from 1988 and was pretty blown away by how awesome these guys used to dress. I'm not sure when or why the hell Bono decided to start wearing those retarded sunglasses that have unfortunately become his signature look, but at one point in time, these guys were pretty much killing it.

These are stills of my two favorite looks, especially The Edge up top. So fresh. Watch the video for a much better look and feel and one hell of a song and performance. I'm starting to understand why this band got to be so damn popular.

Power Laces Are Here

YES. Some do-it-yourselfer seems to have made pretty good progress at the long-sought-after "power laces" made famous in Back To The Future II . They look pretty damn good to me! On a side note, Nike has apparently applied for a patent on their own power laces design. It would seem these might actually finally happen, one way or another.

I Need This

So I'm pretty obsessed with headdresses and whilst searching for cool ones I found this T-shirt, (which is of course only for women–blast!) and am now on a mission to find a men's version of this. I would wear this and only this for at least the first three months I owned it.

This Is What Camping Is Like

Screw the Snuggie. I want one of these. I mean, look, you can even play the air guitar in the damn thing! And meditate! It's so versatile! I wish I'd known about this a few years ago before I discovered how effective a space heater could be. Click here to learn more.

The Minnesota North Stars

Just another Minnesota team that was stolen by another city. This time Dallas stole our hockey team, the Minnesota North Stars, dropped the North and are now known as the Dallas Stars. I like this T-shirt. Maybe I'll get this one to go with my Minneapolis Lakers T-shirt.

The Minneapolis Lakers

Yes, that's right. The Minneapolis Lakers. Los Angeles stole our team in 1960, and didn't even bother to change the Lakers name or our Minnesota Purple and Gold colors (see The Minnesota Vikings colors).

I mean honestly, Minnesota's slogan is "The Land of 10,000 Lakes". How many lakes are there in Los Angeles? Just lazy.

Of course, considering the Minneapolis Lakers won FIVE championships between their origin in 1947 and their departure in 1960, I can't say I blame LA for wanting to latch on to the dominating reputation all-world center George Mikan and the Minneapolis team had built in Minnesota.

So in honor of all this, I've ordered the above T-shirt, and look forward to explaining all of this to anyone who dares to ask why I have a shirt that says "MPLS. Lakers".

Virtual mirror destroys all the fun you have trying on outfits

The always-imaginative gurus at Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft never cease to amaze, and at this year's IFA, they're delivering once more. The so-called "virtual mirror" gives to-be garb buyers an accurate look at what different outfits look like on their person without requiring them to try a single thing on. Granted, shopaholics are apt to detest this thing, but anyone with better things to do than try on four sweaters to see which one makes them look fat should be completely in love. The concept here is far from new, as we've seen both virtual makeover machines and fitting room enhancers before. Still, Fraunhofer's dream of getting you suited up and out of the store in mere minutes is one we'd love to see come true. Just don't ditch the traditional stalls too soon -- we wouldn't want any kind of worldwide uprising.

Not Necessary

Strokes guitarist Albert Hammond Jr. is on a mission to save young men from ill-fitting suits. “A lot of people hate suits, because when they fit terribly, they feel strange inside, like they’re going to a bar mitzvah and they’re 30,” he says, explaining why he’s going into the menswear business. His line of suits, designed with celeb stylist Ilaria Urbinati (who’s dressed James McAvoy, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and the ladies of The L Word), will be for sale this fall at her store in L.A. “I want to make suits that I’m going to have for myself,” Hammond says. “They’re for the person who needs his one suit for a wedding. He’d rather get something like this than go to Men’s Wearhouse, pay the same amount, and look like an out-of-date parent.”

Ladies, You're Better Than This - Introducing The 'Ass Bra'

We've seen underpants with ass-padding, but what about those women who want a little help shaping their derriere and yet don't want to add any extra volume? There's a void in the undergarment market, and Bubbles Bodywear has taken advantage of it: Meet the Double-O Push-Up Thong, an ass bra. "Go undercover with a license to 'shake what your mama gave you' with our new Double-O Collection!" their Website urges. The Push-Up Thong, they say, "enhances the lift, shape and volume of the derriere while also flattening the lower tummy and shaping the thigh." At $64, it's not exactly the cheapest solution to a saggy backside. At least you can probably achieve the same effect by cutting holes in your old Spanx.

If Patrick Robinson Made the Gap So Great, Why Does No One Shop There?

As Eric Wilson notes in today's New York Times style section, the customers aren't exactly flooding in with the same gusto that fashion folks are lavishing Robinson with praise.

The Second Coming of Khaki

Reinventing Gap, the nation’s largest specialty apparel chain, has been fashion’s equivalent of Merlin’s stone for much of the last decade, as sales and profits have dipped, along with its image among young consumers. Patrick Robinson, 41, is the third designer to attempt to pull the sword since Gap began to publicly acknowledge its creative personnel in 2003, and the most closely watched because of his popularity with industry insiders and his finesse with casual American sportswear. His fall designs have generated promising reviews, but also concern about whether a single designer — one with a mixed track record — can revive a brand with 1,155 stores in the United States in the midst of an economic crisis.
