This is incredibly cool. This dude enabled his iPhone to take over any video screen and make it play whatever is on your iPhone, as he demonstrates in Times Square in the above video. This would seem to have unlimited possibilities for troublemakers. I'm looking at you, Banksy.

Pretty sure I'm going to need one of these when they become available March 31. Lets you plug your guitar (or whatever instrument) directly into your iPad, Mac, iPhone or iPod Touch via the dock connectors or USB port to play in GarageBand. FINALLY.

Word Lens

Just bought this augmented reality app for my upcoming trip to Acapulco. It translates instantly as you look at a sign or menu or whatever through the view finder. Pretty incredible.

HDR Video Demonstrated

HDR stands for High Dynamic Range, and its basically the process of combining an over exposed image and an underexposed image into one resulting in a beautiful final image. HDR photos are about to come to the iPhone, which is awesome. Now it looks like maybe HDR video could eventually follow. Have a look at this video demonstration. Pretty gorgeous.

iPhone Cassette Case

I'm not really one for cases on an iPhone (unless it's free), but I'm sort of into this one. I could see myself using it when traveling to keep from clunking around in my backpack, and then using the stand if I were to watch a movie or something. Not sure I need one really, but it's a fun approach to a travel case if you're in the market for one. Also available in black and red.

This is pretty crazy. Someone (presumably an Apple employee who will soon be fired) lost the new iPhone 4 at a Redwood City bar, and Gizmodo got a hold of it. Click here to have a look and learn everything you want to know about it. Here's a quick rundown of what's new:

• Front-facing video chat camera
• Improved regular back-camera
• Camera flash
• Micro-SIM instead of standard SIM
• Improved display
• What looks to be a secondary mic for noise cancellation
• Split buttons for volume
• Power, mute, and volume buttons are all metallic
• The back is entirely flat and either glass, ceramic, or shiny plastic
• An aluminum border going completely around the outside
• Slightly smaller screen than the 3GS with higher resolution
• Everything is more squared off

Words With Friends

If you're wondering why I haven't been blogging as much these days (Scott), it's because I've been too busy playing my new favorite iPhone app game Words With Friends. It's just good old classic Scrabble with a different name, but you can play head-to-head with any of your friends over your iPhones. It's great fun and I'm totally addicted.

The screen grab above features my greatest word score to date, where I played all of my letters to form "SIMPLEX" off of "FRONT" with Double Letter scores on "P" and "X" for a grand total of 76 points! Fantastic!! You can download it for free, or pay $2.99 to get it without advertisements. I highly recommend it.

AT&T’s Rivals Are Happy to Attack Over iPhone’s Network Woes

Apple sold more than a million iPhone 3G cellphones its first weekend — with some stores running out — and two million more since then, analysts say. But its July debut has been nothing less than a public relations headache for AT&T, with eager buyers complaining about dropped calls and poor network connections.

Some fingers point to Apple, which has tried to deflect the complaints. But many others point to AT&T’s cellular network. Whatever the source of the problems, AT&T’s rivals, long irritated by all the attention the iPhone has received, are on the attack and happy to exploit the discontent.

Apple acknowledges iPhone passcode flaw, promises fix next month

Apple's taking a pretty lackadaisical attitude toward one of the most easily avoided security flaws in recent memory, calling the iPhone's passcode lock bypass a "minor iPhone security issue" and saying that a fix will be rolled out in September. Thanks, Apple; we suppose it'd be a little too much trouble to ask for a fix sooner, even though you already fixed it once in 1.1.4. For what it's worth, a company spokeswoman is quick to point out that the flaw can easily be hidden by changing the home button double-click functionality to take you to the home screen, but most users don't know that, now do they? Way to show some hustle, guys -- cookies and gold stars all around.

Brando unites external iPhone battery with speaker at long last

Nothing says "I'm mad as hell about my iPhone 3G's battery life and I'm not going to take it anymore" better than blasting it out of a loudspeaker. Bonus points for that loudspeaker being integrated with a battery pack, which in turn connects to your -- you guess it -- iPhone 3G (or original iPhone, if that's how you roll). Well, $44 to the folks at Brando will buy you that very opportunity, it turns out. Who knew?

JVC rolls out NX-PN7 dual iPod docking station

JVC was showing off its NX-PN7 dual iPod dock way back at a CES at the beginning of this year, but it looks like it's just now gotten its act together and finally pushed the thing out the door. It doesn't seem like much has changed in the ensuing months, however, with the dock still boasting the same ability to not only charge two iPods (or iPhones) at the same time, but playback each one through the unit's speakers or have each one go off at two separate times with the tune of your choice. Otherwise, you can rest assured that you'll be getting the usual FM tuner, as well as a standard analog audio input for your non-Apple audio devices and a video output for some larger screen viewing of your iPod's contents. If that sounds like just the dock you've been waiting for, you can snag one now for $150.

AT&T adds two international data plans for iPhone, still pricey

Following new plans geared to the decidedly less fruity phones in AT&T's lineup earlier this month, the carrier has announced a pair of international data packages geared specifically toward the iPhone and iPhone 3G. The bad news is that they still cost more than the average subscriber's entire monthly bill; the good news, though, is that they should still manage to save globetrotters a buck or two (or a thousand) who insist on keeping data roaming enabled while out in the field. 100MB of global data is going to set you back $119.99 on top of your regular package, while 200MB runs $199.99 -- certainly not enough to go crazy in the App Store, but probably enough of a meager allowance to take care of email and stay on the grid. The new plans are available starting tomorrow.

iPhone 3G customers receive texts about 'important software update'

Owners of Apple’s iPhone 3G began receiving text messages Friday from Apple and AT&T telling them to upgrade their phone’s software to deal with “bug fixes” for the new device.

Some owners of the phone, which went on sale July 11, have complained about problems with dropped calls and poor reception, and said the phone’s 3G, or third-generation wireless, network is not working as fast as was promised.

Apple issued a 2.0.2 iPhone software “update” Aug. 18 to deal with what it only describes as “bug fixes” with the new device. To get the update, customers need to sync their iPhones with Apple’s iTunes program on their computers.
